Summer camp is an exciting time in our Diocese, both for our campers and our counselors, many of whom have grown up in the camping ministry. The annual camps, which cater for youth aged 9-21, are held in July/August, and each year, the activities are built around a central theme.

Preparations for camp begin as early as January, with training days for Camp staff. We are affiliated with Christian Camping International/Jamaica (CCI/J), an organization that brings together individuals, churches and organizations involved in Christian Camping throughout the world. CCI/J also provides annual training.

The annual Diocesan Summer Camps have a long and rich tradition. Perhaps, the most tangible manifestation of this tradition is the Bishop Swaby Memorial Camp Site in Negril, Westmoreland. Bishop Swaby was known to take time out of his schedule to actively participate in the Summer Camps in the Diocese, so this site is aptly named in his memory. The number of participants has now outgrown the facilities at this site and, so, in recent years, camps have been relocated to St. Hilda's Diocesan High School for Girls and the Hampton School for Girls, among other locations.

Wherever we go, we look forward to welcoming “our children” home each year, as well as opening our doors and arms to new participants who will also become a part of our camp family.
