More than 50 young members from churches in the Corporate Area and Portmore, St. Catherine have been registered for the one-day workshop on Liturgical Dance, to be held at the Jesuit Centre on the grounds of St. George’s College, North Street, Kingston tomorrow, January 28. The workshop is being coordinated by the Diocesan Music Unit.
The day’s programme will feature two sessions, the first of which will be devoted to Liturgical Dance which is being used increasingly used as an expression of worship. This session will be led by the Rev. Fr. Robert VerEecke, SJ, Director of the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble. Father Bob, as he is popularly known, has conducted previous workshops in Jamaica, and several members of the Diocese have also attended his courses in Boston.
Fr. Bob has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fordham University; a Master of Divinity from Weston Jesuit School of Theology and another Master’s Degree in Dance and Liturgy from Lesley University in the USA. His work in the integration of dance and religious expression is recognized internationally; and he has given lectures and conducted workshops in several countries.
The second workshop session will focus on Signing and Movement. It will be led by Mrs. Trecia Elliott, from the Church of the Holy Spirit in Cumberland, Portmore. Participants will benefit from her extensive experience in the ministry of worship through the creative arts.
