The more than 300 persons who have registered for the 2010 Healing Conference to be held at the Breezes Resort and Spa in Trelawny, from May 28-30, can expect a weekend of “sound teaching, rich fellowship, soul-stirring music, spirit-inspired worship, sharing of stories, and the experience of healing, all in an atmosphere of unceasing prayer.”
That’s the promise given by the organizers, led by the Suffragan Bishop of Mandeville, and Chairman of the Jamaica Church Missionary Society, the Rt. Rev. Harold Daniel. The programme this year will focus on the theme “Giving – the Heart of Healing.” The main presenters will be the Rt. Rev. Henley Bernard, Moderator of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands; the Rt. Rev. Robert Thompson, Suffragan Bishop of Kingston; and the Rt. Rev. E. Don Taylor, Rector of the Kingston Parish Church.
Bishop Daniel explained that the theme was inspired by the fact that the Jamaican society has been overwhelmed with the “getting” mentality and he says participants at the Conference will examine this challenge, as well as the personal adjustments that will be necessary in making the transition to a society that gives.
Describing the annual Healing Conference as one of the “renewal movements” in the Diocese, he noted that, “For the past 37 years, it has consistently highlighted the fact that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, ministered to the various areas of human need. He was Saviour, He was Teacher and He was Healer.” He added that this important aspect of the ministry of Jesus should be given the place in the Church that it rightfully deserves.
Bishop Daniel also urged participants to be prepared to share with others their stories of healing, blessing, joy, victory and hope in Christ Jesus.
Over the years, the Healing Conference has attracted participants from several other Christian denominations, as well as Anglicans from other Caribbean countries. This year, a small delegation from Belize will be attending.
