First Anglican Cursillo In Jamaica
August 5, 2010

Men's Cursillo Team & Candidates

The first Anglican Cursillo hosted by the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands took place recently at the Hillcrest Diocesan Retreat Centre, Brown’s Town, starting with the Men’s Cursillo - July 15-18 and the Women’s Cursillo - July 29 to August 1. The Men’s Cursillo had 14 candidates who worked around the theme "Let your light shine before men". The Women’s Cursillo had 22 Candidates and the theme was “Here I am, send me”.

The candidates were most appreciative of the experience and the outpouring of love and generosity which accompanies any Cursillo event. The new friendships made, new families acquired and the tangible expressions of God’s love and grace were very special. The male candidates were enthused about their experience and extremely energized to let their lights shine. Female candidates were positive in their approach to the future and their intention to fulfill the mandate of the theme “Here I am, send me”. It was encouraging to have two married couples participating in the respective weekend events.

The Jamaican team was bolstered by persons from the overseas ‘exporting’ Dioceses of South-east Florida and the Bahamas and with representation from the British Virgin Islands. This group provided energetic support and sound advice for the duration of both events. Their experience and encouragement meant much to the local team and their presence was invaluable and deeply appreciated. Additional prayerful support came from Cursillo communities around the world.

Cursillo is a movement of the Anglican Church under the authority of the Diocesan Bishop. It seeks to bring the world to Christ by empowering adult Christian leaders to deepen their commitment to serve Christ and to exert a positive influence through their relationships with others.
